GABLE REUNION 2006

The 83rd Gable Reunion was held on Sunday, August 6, 2006 at the farm of Florence Schlicher. The day was pleasant with low humidity. The porch thermometer read 92 degrees, but a pleasant breeze broke up the heat.

We unfortunately had to call 911 due to Stanley Degler being overcome with heat.

The potluck meal began at 12:30 PM.

At 2:25 PM, Curt Reinik, standing in for Heather Reinik Colon, opened the business meeting. He complimented the food, reminded folks to sign the attendance sheets, and asked folks to check the “name inventory” to verify birth dates, death dates, and marriage dates.

Curt also welcomed Lowell Hawk, Sylvia Dove, Deb Fogle and mother. Geraldine Merchant Line is visiting.

Russell Young offered a prayer for the meeting and the Lord’s Prayer was said in unison.

Births reported: Derek Scott Maxwell, born September 29, 2005 to Rachel (Hill) Maxwell and Martin Maxwell. Rachel is Valerie Neal’s second daughter.

Deaths reported: William Schlicher, 6/28/06
Grace Gable, 11/27/05
Howard Berky, March 2006, two weeks short of his 100th birthday

Marriages: Cora Young to Brian Sipe, 8/12/06
John Schlicher to Maria Giardella, 7/21/06
Dale Schlicher to Mary Christine Messner, 9/10/05

Of note is the 50th Anniversary of Lowell and Shirley Hawk, 8/12/06.

Old business: Thanks to the person responsible for getting the table paper coverings. Thanks to Randy and Ron for the stakes.

At this point, Denny Frederick was able to notify us that Stan Degler will be admitted overnight.

New Business: none

Special Presentations: the collection was taken during the special presentations

Avery Young on acoustic guitar: “Perpetual Motion,” “Rigadoon,” “Tanz II”
Addy Young on violin: “The Rock Road to Dublin”

Jean Nagle recited “Purple Cow” to fill the time between the collection gathering and presentations being done.

Treasurer’s Report: Neil Young reported the balance forward is $407.46 and the Collection was $274.00. [At the time of the minutes being typed, Carolyn Schlicher realized that she never wrote down the expenses for the Reunion and that information needs to be recorded this year.]

Individual prizes were awarded:

There were 3 rounds of the water balloon toss, but no winners were noted.

Because of the final completion of one mass database of Solomon and Elizabeth (Person) Gable, many people gave Carolyn Schlicher updated information to help the accuracy of the database. As of now, there are over 450 descendants recorded for this family.

Respectfully submitted,

Carolyn Schlicher Secretary
